SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, went back and forth in a high-scoring affair with the Schaumburg Boomers, but eventually fell 11-10 and were swept by the Boomers for the first time this season.
The Boomers jumped out to a four run lead through the first two innings, but the Aviators posted a four-run fourth inning to erase the deficit and tie the game up at four.
Kalaika Kahoohalahala and Michael Hur each tallied RBI singles as Kenny Bryant, Ryan Breen, Elijah Trail, and Kahoohalahala each came around to score.
The Boomers again jumped out to a two-run lead after scoring in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, but the Aviators would rally back once again, this time, taking the lead.
The first five batters for the Aviators in the sixth inning recorded hits, highlighted by a three-run home run by Edgar Corcino that completed a five-run inning for the Aviators as they took the lead 9-6.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Mark Nelson recorded a RBI by walking with the bases loaded, the second time he had accomplished that feat in the inning, along with a sacrifice-fly and and RBI single, allowed the Boomers to tie the game up at nine.
The Aviators again took the lead in the top of the eighth inning when Corcino scored on an error by Alexi Colon in center field to give the Aviators a 10-9 lead, but the Boomers would equalize with another sacrifice-fly by Justin Vasquez in the bottom half of the inning.
It was a three up, three down inning for the Aviators in the top of the ninth and the Boomers walked-off on a RBI single by Joe De Pinto to win it for the Boomers 11-10.
With the win, the Boomers clinched a playoff spot for a chance to defend their 2013 Championship. Seeding for the Frontier League Playoffs is still to be determined and will likely take until the end of the season for the bracket to be set.
The Aviators will be back in action tomorrow to open up a three-game series with the Traverse City Beach Bums on the road. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Eastern Time, 6:05 p.m. Central Standard Time.
Fans will be able to listen to the broadcast on the Meridix Network. The link to the broadcast can be found on the Aviators website at www.rockfordaviators.com.
