Portland Sea Dogs News Release

RETURN OF THE JEDI The Portland Sea Dogs are back in the win column after three losses to the Yard Goats, 12-4 in front of a sold out crowd at Hadlock Field. Sterlin Thompson put Hartford on the board first with a solo homer to right field in the top of the third. Hartford scored three runs in the top of the fourth courtesy of an RBI double from Julio Carreras along with a two-RBI single from Warming Bernabel. Portland capitalized with five runs in the bottom of the fourth after an RBI single from Sikes along with an RBI double from Matthew Lugo cut the Hartford lead in half. Binelas exploded for a three-run blast to right field and with his thirteenth homer of the season, Portland took the 5-4 lead. Bonaci blasted his first Double-A homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to right center field and extend the 6-4 Sea Dogs lead. The Sea Dogs scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth after sending nine batters to the plate. Tyler McDonough ignited the scoring with an RBI double (14) before an RBI single from Yorke doubled the Portland lead, 8-4. McDonough scored on a passed ball before an RBI groundout from Chase Meidroth made it 10-4 Portland. Hickey cleared the bases with his second homer in as many days and the two-run blast to right field marked his team-leading fourteenth of the season.

THE FORCE IS STRONG Brainer Bonaci blasted his first Double-A home run alongside Alex Binelas (13) and Nathan Hickey (14) to combine for three Portland homers on the night. Nick Yorke, Nathan Hickey, and Phillip Sikes all recorded multi-hit days going two-for-four at the plate.

HE IS THE CHOSEN ONE Minor League Baseball's most infamous mascot, Slugger the Sea Dog, has been inducted to the Mascot Hall of Fame in Whiting, Indiana. Slugger is the first minor league sports mascot ever to be selected for induction.

I GOT A GOOD FEELING ABOUT THIS Portland combined for all twelve runs during innings 4-6 in last nights game while blasting three home runs. Portland does the most damage in the fifth inning of ballgames combining for a .298 batting average as a team. The Sea Dogs also hit the most home runs and doubles in the sixth inning with 22 and 28 respectively.

DON'T CALL HIM A NERF-HERDER Nathan Hickey hit his team-leading fourteenth homer and second in as many days with two outs in the bottom of the sixth last night. Niko Kavadas held the team-lead with fourteen homers prior to his promotion to Triple-A Worcester. Hickey also holds the second-best batting average (.276) amongst current players, just behind Corey Rosier (.300). Hickey is hitting .286 with a .394 OBP in the month of August with two doubles, three homers, and six RBI.

YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE Nick Yorke is currently riding a five-game hitting streak that dates back to August 4th in Bowie. Across those five games, Yorke has collected seven hits including a double and a home run. Yorke has also scored six runs in the same time frame to record a five-game streak with a run scored. Yorke currently leads the team in runs (58), hits (93), RBI (46), and ties Corey Rosier with the most triples (5).

THIS IS THE WAY With another 7,368 fans in attendance last night, the Sea Dogs recorded their 17th sell out of the season. Portland is currently third in overall attendance with 298, 054 in Double-A and also third in Double-A in average attendance (6,209). The Sea Dogs rank 16th in Minor League Baseball in average attendance.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOURHP Isaac Coffey takes the mound tonight for the Sea Dogs. In his last outing on August 6th at Bowie, he tossed 6.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out seven. He gave up a season-high two home runs.
