Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Christian Scott and Tyler Thomas combined to twirl a one-hit shutout, as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-18, 54-52) defeated the Somerset Patriots 4-0 on Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark. The Ponies have taken three of the first five games in the series.
Coming off a career-high 11 strikeouts in his last start, Scott (4-3) was lights out. Scott allowed one hit over 6.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. After allowing a leadoff double to Ben Rice in the first inning, he retired the next 15 batters in a row. The 24-year-old retired 19 of the 21 batters that he faced.
Thomas relieved Scott and tossed 2.2 hitless innings and struck out four batters, while allowing just one baserunner to reach on a hit by pitch. The Ponies blanked Somerset (20-17, 62-43) for the second time this season.
Hayden Senger broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a leadoff solo home run on the first pitch from Matt Sauer (2-3), which gave the Ponies a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Drew Gilbert hit a one-out single and JT Schwartz followed with a walk. Somerset brought in Ryan Anderson out of the bullpen and Jeremiah Jackson greeted him with a three-run blast to center that gave Binghamton a 4-0 lead.
Senger and Jackson have both homered twice in the series. It was Senger's fifth homer of the year and Jackson's second with Binghamton and 17th overall.
The Rumble Ponies will conclude their series with the Patriots at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 4:50 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
Postgame Notes: Senger had his first three-hit game of the season and 14th of his career, and was a triple shy of the cycle...Jackson reached base for the ninth-straight games since joining the Rumble Ponies, and he has nine runs batted in over that span...It was Jackson's sixth three-RBI game this season...Gilbert had a multi-hit game with two singles, a walk, and a stolen base.
