Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

BURLINGTON, VT --- Victor Robles went 4-for-5 with a home run to lead off the game and added an RBI triple to lead the Auburn Doubledays to a 6-2 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in the New York-Penn finale of a three-game series at historic Centennial Field on Thursday night.

Robles drilled a 2-2 pitch from Lake Monsters starter Jonnie Massad over the leftcenter field fence for his first home run since joining the Doubledays last week. Vermont tied the game in the second on a Seth Brown one-out double and Skye Bolt RBI double before Auburn retook the lead on a Robles RBI triple to centerfield scoring Dalton Dulin.

Vermont again tied the game in the bottom of the third on a solo homer from Brett Siddall, who was playing in his first game with the Lake Monsters since being promoted from the Arizona League Athletics. The home run from the 13th-round pick in the 2015 draft out of Canisius College was the 19th of the season for Vermont, tying them with Lowell for the league-lead.

Auburn would take the lead for good in the fifth on a Edwin Lora RBI single, then add two more runs in the sixth on a Dulin RBI single and fielding error by centerfielder Bolt. The Doubledays got another insurance run in the seventh on a Rhett Wiseman RBI single for the 6-2 lead.

Three Doubleday relievers each tossed two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits with one walk and six strikeouts over the six innings. Adam Boghosian came on in relief of starter Erick Fedde (2-3) in the fourth inning and threw two hitless innings to earn the win. Massad (2-3) was charged with five runs (four earned) on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings to take the loss.

A catcher with Vermont in 2013 and now a pitcher in the A's system, Tyan Gorton made his 2015 Lake Monsters debut on the mound and allowed one run on three hits with two strikeouts over 1 1/3 innings. Gorton is just the second player in Vermont history to be a position player one season and return to the team as a pitcher in another year (Juan Rosado as an outfielder in 1995 and a pitcher in 1996).

Vermont (13-19) dropped two-of-three in the series to Auburn and will begin a three-game series at Centennial Field against the Connecticut Tigers on Friday night starting at 7:05 pm. The first 500 kids to enter the park when the gates open at 6:00 pm will receive a Commermorative Lake Monsters baseball courtesy of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont.
