Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

BATAVIA, NY-The Connecticut Tigers (16-16) completed a three game sweep and won their fourth straight game as the defeated the Batavia Muckdogs (9-23) by a final score of 11-2.

It was the second time Connecticut has swept a series this season. The other time was when they beat Tri-City in three straight at the end of June. It is also the first time the Tigers have reached .500 since July the 11th. All nine batters had at least one hit for the Tigers.

With Connecticut down 1-0 going to the top of the seventh third basemen Josh Lester reached on a walk from Batavia reliever Nick White (1-3). Lester was the first of five straight Tigers batters to reach and all five would score. First basemen Will Allen (2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) drove in the first run with a base hit and catcher Shane Zeile delivered a two RBI double. Centerfielder Victor Padron (2-6, 3 RBI) capped the scoring with a two run single making it 5-1.

In the eighth the first ten Connecticut batters reached and the route was on as the first six men to reach scored. Right fielder Tanner Donnels (2-4, 2 R, RBI), Allen, Padron, designated hitter Cam Gibson and second basemen Brett Pirtle all drove in single runs in the inning. By the time the dust had settled the Tigers led 11-1.

Jack Fischer (1-1) got the win for Connecticut working two shutout innings while allowing one hit and striking out two and walking two. Ryan Castellanos got the ball to start for the Tigers and pitched extremely well. It was his first start of the season and went five innings giving up a single run on four hits.

For Batavia they started second round draft pick Brett Lilek and he gave them a solid outing. Lilek lasted three innings and surrendered just two hits while striking out four. However, with White on the mound the wheels feel off. White after working three shutout innings finished his night after allowing six hits and five runs. Justin Langley didn't fear much better giving up five hits and allowing six runs in just two thirds of an inning.

Connecticut will play at Vermont tomorrow in the first game of a three game series. The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
