Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack welcomed the North Bay Battalion for their sole visit to the Bayshore this season on Saturday night. Nick Chenard received his second start of the year as the Attack looked to return to their winning ways after having a five game win streak snapped Thursday night in Barrie. Joe Vrbetic got the start for the Troops as they looked to rebound from a difficult start to the season, having won just three of their first thirteen games. Attack forward Barret Kirwin would dress for his 200th career OHL game tonight.

The game started well for the Attack when Daylon Groulx slipped in behind the defense and went five hole on Vrbetic to make it a 1-0 game 1:11 into the first period. Aidan Dudas and Sergey Popov got the assists on their linemates 6th of the season. Just minutes later, Brady Lyle would double the Attack lead after making a nice play to break into the Battalion zone, feeding off a nice give and go with Adam McMaster to make it 2-0 just five minutes into the game. The scoring wouldn't stop and the Attack would make it 3-0 at the 11 minute mark when Griffin Wilson scored his first of the year, ripping one past the North Bay netminder to give the Attack a healthy 3-0 lead heading to the first intermission.

The second period didn't begin as well as the 1st, as former Attacker Mitchell Russell found himself alone in front of the net and he made no mistake to put it past Chenard. The lead would return to three quickly when Matt Philip was set up by Barret Kirwin on a 4 on 4 play. Philip found the edge, drove the net and slipped it in to make it a 4-1 lead for the home team. The Attack couldn't score again in the period, but Chenard was standing tall in the crease. After making a tremendous blocker save on a backdoor play, he stopped Brandon Coe on a breakaway. The Attack would head to the third with a three goal advantage, and were ahead in shots on goal 22-17.

Owen Sound did not get off to the start they wanted in the final frame of the night. North Bay scored two quick goals in succession to cut the Attack lead to 1. Luke Moncada got the first for the Battalion, and Harrison Caines scored 30 seconds later and all of a sudden the fans at the Bayshore started feeling nervous. After a 30 second timeout from Head Coach Al Letang, the Bears seemed to have settled down. With five minutes remaining, Captain Dudas found himself free in the Battalion zone and put it behind Vrbetic to give the Attack a two goal lead once again. North Bay would pull the goalie with two minutes remaining but Owen Sound were the ones to take advantage after Carter Robertson found the gaping net from his own end. The Attack would be up 6-3, the final score of the game.

The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Nick Chenard, making 28 saves in the victory. The Owen Sound Bug Juice North Stars Three Stars were Harrison Caines (1G, 1A), Aidan Dudas (1G, 2A), and Brady Lyle (1G, 1A).

The Owen Sound Attack will return to action Wednesday night at the Bayshore against the Flint Firebirds. Fans are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween Costumes. Doors open at 6 p.m, and the puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the MacVicar & McComb Remax Attack Box Office and online.
