Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs were back in action Saturday night, visiting the Barrie Colts for the first time in this season's series. Coming into tonight's game, the IceDogs top line of Oliver Castleman, Akil Thomas, and Ivan Lodnia, who combined for a total of eight points last night, got the start, with Elijah Roberts and Mason Howard on the back end, and Tucker Tynan between the pipes. Just two points separated these two teams heading into the match up.
The IceDogs opened the first period with some quality goal scoring opportunities, but it was Barrie who opened the scoring. Both teams got their share of chances with the man advantage, but both goaltenders maintained the score. The opening frame ended with the IceDogs shooting 14 pucks on net.
The Colts extended their lead early in the second period, to make it a 2-0 hockey game. Just a few minutes later, it seemed as though Oliver Castleman had scored to cut the Barrie lead in half, but it was overturned because the play was ruled to be offside. The Colts added another to carry a 3-0 lead into the final period of regulation.
Midway through the third period, IceDogs Captain Akil Thomas got Niagara on the board with a beautiful finish after deking around the Colts' defenceman. Then, three minutes later, Ivan Lodnia's one timer from the face off dot brought the IceDogs within one. With two points on the night already, Thomas set up the play that set the tone for Phil Tomasino to dance his way into the offensive zone to tie the game up at 3. Late in the period, the Colts were awarded a penalty shot, and scored to re-gain the one-goal lead.
The Colts took this one by a score of 4-3.
Your IceDogs are on the road tomorrow afternoon for a matinee in London, then return home on Friday, November 1st, to face off against the Ottawa 67's.
