Owen Sound Attack News Release

After being shutout Sunday afternoon in Sarina, the Owen Sound Attack exploded for four goals late in the first period Thursday night in Barrie, and withstood a late Colts push to earn a 4-3 win.

The game marked the first of six meetings between the Attack and Colts this season, but also saw the Attack face a former teammate in goaltender Mack Guzda.

It was a fast pace to open the game, as there were limited whistles throughout the opening 10 minutes of the action. It was the Colts who struck first, jumping out to the 1-0 lead just before the midway point of the period. Owen Sound tilted the ice late in the period, but were turned away by Guzda. The Attack continued the pressure and were rewarded with less than four minutes left on the clock. It was Gavin Bryant who evened the score when he wired home a shot from the high slot. Owen Sound did not ease the pressure and added three more goals within the last three minutes, including two for rookie Servac Petrovsky, while Deni Goure added to his team lead with his ninth of the year.

Owen Sound went into the intermission with momentum, and came out in the second maintaining control of play. The Colts would try and press the play to get back into the game, but Owen Sound would continually crowd the neutral zone, making it difficult for the home team to gain zone access.

Attack goalie Nick Chenard, who faced just 10 shots in period one and limited high danger attempts, was asked to stand tall late in the second when miscommunication led to a Colts point-blank chance. Chenard stood tall and kept the Attack lead at three.

Playing a defensive style always leaves opportunities for the other team to gain momentum and early in the third period Barrie took advantage and began to tilt the ice toward the Attack end. It was just minutes into the third, when the Colts cut into the Owen Sound lead. The lead would be cut down to one goal just before the halfway point of the period as the game intensified and the nerves began o run high.

It was again some strong team defence that helped Owen Sound withstand the late push and hold on for the win.

As he faced his former team Guzda shook off the rough end to the first period, as he made some key stops late in the third to keep the Colts in the game.

Chenard was peppered late in the game, as he was called on to make some key saves, and was helped by the rest of the Attack defence forcing many of the Colts chances to come from the perimeter.

Owen Sound will end the month of November at home when they welcome mid-west rivals London Knights to the Bayshore Saturday night. Tickets for this game are becoming limited but can still be purchased online or at the McVicar and McComb Sutton Reality Box Office.
