Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack Hockey Club in partnership with the Owen Sound Fire Department is pleased to announce that the first annual "Toonies and Toys" Night will be held on Wednesday, December 1st when the Attack play host to the London Knights.

On December 1st, members of the Owen Sound Fire Department will be on hand to collect either new toys that will be distributed to local children or cash donations (toonies) that will be used to purchase gifts for area children. A puck-toss will also be held that evening during the first intermission. Pucks will be available from Fire Fighters in the South Concourse for a $2.00 donation.

The "Toonies and Toys" night is an initiative started by the Owen Sound Fire Department and the Owen Sound Attack intended to assist local families with food and gifts around the holiday season. "There is a real need for toys and gifts this time of year for children in this area." Stated Wayne Flood of the Owen Sound Fire Department. "Last year, our local department assisted almost 1000 local families."

This new initiative will be replacing the Attack's annual Teddy Bear Toss night. While the Teddy Bear Toss was extremely effective, it was almost too effective explains Brent Fisher. "Over the last few seasons, there has been far more bears collected than the number actually needed for this area. I think it is important to our fans and our community that an initiative such as this stays local and we were being forced to look well outside of our area for places to distribute the bears. Hygiene was also an issue with many families being reluctant to take in stuffed animals from outside sources for fear of germs or other types of contamination."

"As an organization, we fully understand that our fans enjoyed Teddy Bear Toss night, but we also hope that they will support this change and understand why it was necessary and that it will in fact benefit more local families and children during the holiday season, " said Fisher.

Game time on December 1st vs. the London Knights is 7:00pm. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Attack Box Office or calling the Box Office at (519) 371-7452. Online orders can also be made by visiting www.attackhockey.com.
