The Saginaw Spirit fell 4-3 in overtime to the Sarnia Sting Friday night at the RBC Centre of Sarnia. The Spirit garnered one point despite the loss, moving their season total to 35 points with a record of 16-4-2-1. The Spirit return to action Saturday night against the London Knights, a 7:11 PM contest at The Dow Event Center of Saginaw.

The Spirit tallied two goals in the first period to put them up 2-0 over the Sting. Spirit winger Brandon Saad opened scoring with a goal from center Ivan Telegin at 4:33 in the first, marking Saad's sixteenth goal of the season. Spirit defenseman Brad Walch notched his first goal of the season on the power play at 15:47 in the first to give Saginaw a two goal advantage, courtesy assists from wingers Josh Shalla and Michael Kantor.

The Sting battled back in the opening minutes of the second period to reduce the deficit and move the score to 2-1. Sarnia winger Craig Hottot tallied a goal at the 2:02 mark from wingers Brandon Alderson and Dean Pawlaczyk. The Spirit quickly responded to regain their two goal advantage however, with center Michael Sgarbossa scoring at 15:44 from center Mathew Sisca and Shalla to take the game to 3-1.

Sarnia would again fight back to make it a one goal game in the third period, with winger Brett Ritchie scoring from winger Brandon Francisco at the 10:05 mark to move the score to 3-2. The Sting would continue to battle the Spirit, and their efforts paid off when defenseman Joe Rogalski tallied his third of the season at 14:53 to tie up the contest at three apiece. Hottot and winger Tyler Peters assisted on the goal.

The Sting's two third period goals forced a 5:00 minute four-on-four overtime, and a power play opportunity late in the extra period provided the opportunity for the Sting to secure the win. Center Alex Galchenyuk scored at the 3:00 mark from winger Nail Yakupov and winger Kale Kerbashian.

Spirit netminder Tadeas Galansky posted 23 saves on 27 shots while Sting goalie John Cullen posted 23 saves on 26 shots.
