Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack and General Manager Dale DeGray announced Friday that they have acquired goaltender Nathan Torchia from the Oshawa Generals in exchange for a conditional 7th round pick in 2020.
A native of Waterloo, Ontario, Torchia was selected by the Generals in the fourth round (66th overall) of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection Draft. He spent most of the 2017-18 season playing in the OJHL with the Georgetown Raiders and Stouffville Spirit.
After joining the Raiders from the Stouffville Spirit on December 1st, 2017, Torchia went 10-4-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.46 and a save percentage of .951 to complete the OJHL regular season.
During his time with the Raiders, the netminder was selected not only once, but twice as the OJHL KEWL Goaltender of the Month.
"We are very excited about having Nathan on board, and we're looking forward to providing him the opportunity to stay in the OHL and get some games under his belt," said GM Dale DeGray of the trade deal.
Torchia's father Mike starred with the Kitchener Rangers, where he won the 1990 Memorial Cup Most Outstanding Goalie honours, but fell short in the finals against the Oshawa Generals. His father would win OHL Goaltender of the Year the following season, and was later drafted to the Minnesota North Stars.
Nathan is looking to follow in his father's footsteps and create a meaningful career in the OHL, now with the Owen Sound Attack.
