Flint Firebirds News Release
Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League is pleased to announce the appointment of Darcy Findlay to the Flint Firebirds Hockey Operations Department in the position of Associate Coach.
"On behalf of the Flint Firebirds, we are pleased that Darcy Findlay has agreed to join the coaching staff of the Flint Firebirds," said Barclay Branch, Firebirds VP of Hockey Operations & General Manager. "He has tremendous experience, along with knowledge and passion for the game that will be a great asset to the team. In addition, the skills he carries from his professional background as a teacher will help play a significant role in developing our group both as people and as hockey players. Darcy is a great addition to a strong coaching staff and we look forward to seeing his work both on and off-ice with the Firebird players."
Effective immediately, Findlay joins the club in place of Paul Flache who is returning home to Atlanta to be closer to his young family.
Findlay, a 30-year-old from Bristol, Quebec, has spent the last four seasons in the CCHL including two full seasons as head coach of the Nepean Raiders Jr. A team. His recent experience also includes serving as head coach of Team HEO at the 2018 OHL Gold Cup before working alongside incoming CHL top prospects at Hockey Canada's Under-17 Development Camp in July. Findlay graduated from Bemidji State University in 2012 playing four years in the NCAA Division I program receiving three-time All-Academic team honours.
"First off I'm very honoured and excited for my wife and I to join the Firebirds organization," said Findlay. "I've heard really great things about the staff in place and direction the team is heading and can't wait to get to work. When Barclay mentioned that they want to develop great hockey players but more importantly good people I knew right away it's a place I wanted to join. I look forward to the opportunity to work with Ryan and the rest of the staff and can't wait to contribute to the continued growth of the Firebirds organization. It's an exciting time to be part of the organization."
In addition to welcoming Darcy Findlay, the OHL and Firebirds organization would like to thank outgoing Associate Coach, Paul Flache, for his commitment to the hockey club in 2017-18 and wish him the best of luck back home in Atlanta.
"I would like to thank the Flint Firebirds players, fans, community and the OHL for the opportunity this past season," said Flache. "The future is very bright for the organization. I wish the coaching staff and players the best of luck in the 2018-19 season."
