Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones have announced that the contract of reliever Daniel Sattler has been purchased by the Oakland Athletics.
Sattler, 25, joined the T-Bones on May 27 after spending his first two seasons in the Texas Rangers organization. A product of Purdue University, Sattler played four seasons with the Boilermakers before being drafted in the 44th round of the 2006 amateur draft by the Rangers. In 36 relief appearances with the T-Bones, Sattler held opponents to a miniscule .148 batting average while posting a 1.66 ERA over 43 and one-thirds innings. He struck out 51 batters in that span while walking just 21 and not allowing a home run.
"Daniel struggled with the decision," said manager Andy McCauley, "but it's the best move for his career. It's a bittersweet moment, but we wish him the best of luck."
Sattler will join Single-A Stockton but could move to Class AA Midland if the RockHounds make the Texas League playoffs.
Sattler is the second T-Bones player to have his contract purchased this season and is the 18th overall since 2003. The first this season was Luis Villarreal, who joined the Seattle Mariners organization on August 8.
