Winnipeg Holds On For A 2-1 Win On Wednesday

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA-The Winnipeg Goldeyes (53-39) scored two unearned runs in the 3rd inning and sustained a 9th inning comeback by the Joliet JackHammers (31-60) to earn a 2-1 win before 6,465 fans at Canwest Park. The win completes the three-game sweep for the Goldeyes.
Winnipeg scored two runs in the 3rd inning against Joliet LHP Devin Anderson (1-5). RF Cory Patton (3-4) hit a two-out double and moved to third base when SS Adam Frost (0-4) reached first base on an error.
DH Juan Diaz (1-3) smacked a two-run single to score both men for a 2-0 Winnipeg lead.
Anderson pitched very well for the JackHammers in what ultimately turned out to be a tough-luck loss. He went six and one-thirds innings and allowed two unearned runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out four.
In the 9th inning, the JackHammers spoiled Winnipeg RHP Ace Walker's (11-6) attempt for his 6th complete game of the season. SS Kevin Rios (0-3) reached base on a two-out error by Winnipeg SS Adam Frost. 1B Freddie Thon (3-4) singled Rios over to third base.
Winnipeg manager Rick Forney took Walker out of the game in favor of closer Chris Homer. He gave up a single to RF Tim Alberts (1-4) to score Rios for a 2-1 Winnipeg lead. 3B Wally Backman, Jr. (0-4) grounded out to end the game.
The JackHammers start a four-game series with the Kansas City T-Bones on Friday night at Silver Cross Field at 7:05 p.m. The JackHammers present fireworks after the game sponsored by Aramark. It's also college night featuring half-off box seats tickets or buy one, get one free general admission tickets with a with a valid student ID. Starting pitchers have yet to be announced for the series. The game will not be broadcast on AM 1340 WJOL due to high school football coverage.
The game will be broadcast on www.jackhammerbaseball.com and on sportsjuice.com. Pre-game coverage will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
The JackHammers next home stand begins on Friday, August 28 against the Kansas City T-Bones at 7:05 p.m. On Saturday, August 29 the JackHammers host the "Kash for Klein's Klunker" raffle. $5.00 gets you a ticket to the game as well as a chance to win Adam Klein's 1991 Chevy Cavalier.
