Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Kansas City T-Bones capped back-to-back road wins against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Wednesday night routing the 'Hawks 12-4 at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 4,294 fans. Coming off a complete-game shutout, T-Bones starter RHP Dustin Bolton fell short of the distance, but pitched 7.0 innings, gave-up three earned runs and fanned four for his seventh win of the season.
In the first-inning, CF Aharon Eggleston worked a 10-pitch walk. With 2B Damian Rolls at first and Eggleston at second, RF Greg Jacobs legged out a bases-loading-bunt. DH Luis Terrero cracked a broken-bat sac fly to open the scoring.
In the home-half of the first, SS Zach Penprase dragged-out a bunt single. Penprase reached second on a hit-and-run by CF Nic Jackson. With Penprase in scoring position, 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn homered for the second game in-a-row to put the RedHawks ahead on the board 2-1. The RedHawks lead was cut short on a game-tying solo shot by 3B Jacob Blackwood.
SS Jeff Helps hit a bloop single and LF Ryan Fox reached on a fielding error by Piepkorn. The T-Bones played second-inning small-ball. Fox and Helps reached second and third on Eggleston's bunt and Rolls pushed home the go-ahead run. RedHawks starter LHP Jeff Icenogle issued a four-fingered salute to Terrero, but induced a fly-out from 1B Jim Fasano to pitch out of the second-inning jam.
In the third, Fox and Rolls teamed-up for a pair of singles to double the lead to 4-2. The RedHawks' running-game helped narrow the gap in the third. Penprase poked a ball opposite-field, nabbed second and was plated by Piepkorn.
With the RedHawks within a run, the T-Bones doubled the lead again in the sixth. Rolls beat out the throw to first, Terrero drew a walk and Fasano hit a deuces-wild double to make it 6-3.
The T-Bones padded their lead in the eighth. Rolls kicked-up the left-field chalk and legged out a double. Terrero cracked a seeing-eye-single to plate Rolls from second and give the T-Bones a four-run cushion. The RedHawks benefited from a balk and a passed ball for a run in the eighth. The T-Bones rallied for five-runs in the top of the ninth thanks in part to a Fasano grand-slam homerun.
The RedHawks go for the series-split in the regular-season finale tomorrow at Newman Outdoor Field. LHP Brett Davis (1-0; 1.80) will head to the hill for the T-Bones. LHP Scott Fogelson (3-2; 3.91) will toe the rubber for the RedHawks. Game time is 12:30 p.m.
