Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Blues defeated the Winston-Salem Dash 6-1 on Friday night in front of another sellout crowd at McCormick Field. The Blues used the Home Run ball, timely hitting, and quality pitching to earn the series opening win.

Jacob Melton led off the bottom of the first inning with a towering Home Run over the right field wall to give Asheville a 1-0 lead. Nolan DeVos pitched 4.1 innings and allowed only one run; a game-tying RBI hit in the top of the third. DeVos struck out five and turned the game over to Max Roberts in the fifth.

Roberts struck out a pair with the contest tied 1-1 and the Blues offense went to work in the bottom of the inning. Tim Borden II broke the tie with an RBI infield single. Ryan Clifford followed with an RBI single to right. Tommy Sacco Jr. capped the three-run frame with a bases loaded walk.

Sacco Jr. added another RBI with a Sacrifice Fly in the seventh. Kobe Kato then hit his first Home Run of the season; a solo shot in the eighth. As the offense kept piling up runs, Valente Bellozo churned out four scoreless innings down the stretch to earn his second save of the season.

Asheville's hitters struck out only three times and the Blues' pitching staff held the Dash offense to a 1-for-13 mark with runners in scoring position. The victory snapped a four-game skid prior to the break.
