Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that SS Asdrubal Cabrera has been promoted to the club from Double-A Akron.

Cabrera, 21, has excelled with Double-A Akron this season. In 96 games, he has hit .310 (114-368) with 23 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 54RBI. He leads the Eastern League in runs scored (78) and is fourth in hits (114) and stolen bases (23). He was also named to the Eastern League mid-season All-Star Team.

Cabrera has five game-winning hits in the ninth inning for Akron this year, including a three-run walk-off homer against Harrisburg on July 18. With runners on base, he has averaged .336 (51-152) with 49RBI.

Cabrera played 52 games with the Bisons last season after being acquired by the Indians on June 30, 2006 in a trade with Seattle (for Eduardo Perez). He hit .263 (50-190) with 11 doubles, one home run, 14RBI and five stolen bases with the Herd. In his final 28 games of the season, he hit .296 (32-108) with 20 runs scored.

While in the Mariners' organization, Cabrera skipped the Double-A level. He reached Triple-A Tacoma in 2005 at the age of 19. Last season as the youngest player in the Pacific Coast League, he was leading all shortstops with a .986 fielding percentage before his trade.
