 Columbus Clippers

At The Coop

July 30, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

A lot is going on with the Clippers this week...

Today is Dime-A-Dog Night at The Coop!

Tomorrow we have a classic baseball match up. The renowned Red Sox All-Star pitcher Curt Schilling vs. the young phenom Collin Balester. Curt Schilling is one of the game's best pitchers. The Red Sox star is a six time All-Star and a World Series MVP.

Balester, the number one pitching prospect, has been very impressive in his first two games in Columbus. The young California surfer just turned 21-years-old.

Last week, former Clipper Russ Johnson was talking about how competitive the International League is. Last season, 70% of the players in our league were major leaguers. To be pitching in the I.L. at the tender age of 21 is quite a feat. Only 14 Clippers were younger than Balester, among them Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly, Bernie Williams, Jose Rijo and Deion Sanders.

In twenty years will we be saying, "Remember when we saw Schilling and Balester battle at The Coop?"

Thursday, you are invited to the groundbreaking for the new Huntington Park. Tomorrow, I will send you a special e-mail with all the details.

Saturday the Famous Chicken will be up to his zany antics at Cooper Stadium. Did you know that the largest Clippers crowd in history was the day the Chicken first flew The Coop?
