Arrojo Sets Hit by Pitch Record as Freedom Sweep Washington

The Freedom beat Washington 3-2 on Sunday for their third straight win and a sweep of the Wild Things. Freedom shortstop Junior Arrojo was hit by a pitch for the 30th time this season to set the single-season Frontier League record.
The Wild Things broke a 27-inning scoreless streak in the second to take a 1-0 lead. Freedom starter Jeff Frost, who lasted only three innings due to control issues, issued a one-out walk to Estee Harris. Harris advanced to second on a passed ball, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI groundout by Blake Ochoa. It was the first run allowed by Florence in 21 innings after shutting out Washington in the first two games of the series.
The Freedom answered right back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Drew Rundle that drove in Jeff Dunbar, who earned a two-out walk against Wild Things starter Jhonny Montoya.
Florence got two straight hits against Montoya in the third, a one-out John Malloy double and single by Juan Valdes put runners on the corners. Montoya threw a wild pitch that allowed Malloy to score, and a 19 minute lightning delay followed.
Malloy chipped in at the batter's box as well in the fourth, as he roped his second double of the game to left field to score Stephen Shults make it a 3-1 Freedom lead.
Rainfall delayed the game for seven more minutes in between the fourth and fifth innings.
Arrojo was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the fifth and set the record. The crowd of 1,631 gave him an ovation after the record was announced.
Tim Holmes relieved Frost in the fourth and went two scoreless innings. Mike Hanley pitched a scoreless sixth and Braden Tullis threw two perfect innings of relief.
Brandon Mathes came on to pitch the ninth and gave up a two-out RBI single to Blake Ocho to cut the lead to 3-2. With the tying run at second, Mathes struck out Ryan Ditthardt to complete the sweep and earn his second save.
The Freedom have an off day on Monday and start a six-game road trip on Tuesday night at 7:05 at Lake Erie. Anthony Bello (2-4, 4.02) will take the hill for Florence.
