River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - River City posted season highs in runs (17) and hits (22) and Zack Sterner won his Frontier League high eighth game as the new look offense clicked for the first time en-route to a 17-7 win over Joliet, extending their division lead over Southern Illinois to 10 games.

Josh Flores led off the game with a homerun to give Joliet (41-30) the early 1-0 lead but River City, after being held to just five hits and one run in an embarrassing 16-1 loss in game two, exploded for seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the first to take a 7-1 lead. Five consecutive hits plated the first four runs before Chris McClendon ripped a two-out double to right that emptied the loaded bases.

The Rascals (53-18) picked up two more runs on a homerun from Logan Parker in the second and blew the game wide open in the third with five more runs on seven hits including a three-run towering homerun over the Big Dawg wall in right from Joash Brodin to extend the lead to 14-1.

The Slammers got a run back in the fourth and another in the seventh before the Rascals' offense plated two more in the seventh on back-to-back two-out singles from Bobby Burk and Matt Serna to extend the lead to 16-3.

Serna entered the game after McClendon re-injured his hamstring legging out a third inning double and will be evaluated tomorrow.

Jareck West hit his ninth homerun in the eighth before the Slammers added four runs in the ninth.

Monday is a league wide off day before River City heads to the Chicago area for a six-game road trip against Windy City and Joliet.
