Last Time Out...

Kyle Maunus tallied four hits and drove in a team record seven runs as the Joliet Slammers (41-29) crushed the River City Rascals (52-18) by a final score of 16-1 Saturday night. Joliet got on the board right away in the first inning as they plated three runs. A Reid Chenworth two-RBI single and a Maunus RBI single were responsible for the three runs. They ran away from River City in the second as the Slammers plated a season high seven runs in the inning. Pellot smacked a two-RBI single, Chenworth tallied a RBI double, Maunus got two more RBI with another single, a Ben Hewett sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch rounded out the scoring. They'd get three more in the fifth thanks to another wild pitch, and RBI singles by Fox and Maunus. A Maunus three run home run in the seventh put a cherry on top of the Slammers' best offensive game of the year. Ryne Miller went five innings to get the win.

For Starters...

Andrew Moss is coming off his two best starts of the season. In his last outing on August 2 he went seven shutout innings to beat the Gateway Grizzlies. But it was two starts ago where he made national headlines as he no-hit the Lake Erie Crushers, striking out eight along the way. The Cardinals made Moss their 35th round draft pick in 2009. The Lincoln University product has excelled at multiple levels in affiliated baseball. Moss' strikeout to walk ratio has been stellar, including 61 K's to only 23 BB's in 2010 with the low-A Batavia Muckdogs. He has a career 11-5 record with a 3.15 ERA in the minor leagues. He started 2011 with the Quad City River Bandits of the Midwest League before signing with the Slammers.

Rubber matches...

The Slammers are 4-4 in rubber matches this season. In addition, they are 12-10 in series finales.

Record breaking offense...

The Slammers set season highs in runs (16) and hits (20) in last night's victory. In addition, Kyle Maunus' 7 RBI was the most ever in a single game for a Slammers player.

Outfoxed...

David Fox leads the Slammers with a .404 batting average in 47 AB's with men in scoring position.

Putting the ball in play...

Catcher Ben Hewett is the only Slammer who doesn't have more K's than BB's. He has 11 of each.

The best of the best...

The Slammers have the best ERA in the entire Frontier League at 3.58. In addition, they've held opponents to a league low .237 batting average. The bullpen has been especially strong, compiling an ERA of 2.76.

#Winning...

Joliet is a season best 12 games over .500.The Slammers are a season high 4.5 games up in the East Division. They've held first place by themselves since the end of play on July 8th. Before then they had not held first place by themselves all year.

Road Warriors...

The Slammers have won five of their last six series on the road. In addition, they've swept three of those series as they swept Gateway last series, Lake Erie July 27-29, and Normal right before the All-Star break. Joliet's record of 22-16 on the road is the best in the East Division and second best in the Frontier League.

Aggression...

Joliet's hitters like to swing the bat as evidenced by their league low 236 walks.

Leading after six...

The Slammers are almost unbeatable with a record of 29-1 when leading after six innings. However they are 5-26 when trailing after six.
