Toronto Argonauts News Release

Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate LB Michael Fletcher for being named the CFL Defensive Player of the Week.

CFL Player of the Week judge Ellison Kelly commented, "Fletcher's heads up play and versatility directly influenced the outcome of the game. His interception ended a promising Stampeder's drive, and hard tackle late in the fourth quarter resulted in a fumble recovery by Kevin Eiben, insuring Toronto's first victory of the 2005 campaign."

Fletcher had a remarkable game against the Calgary Stampeders in Week 2 action. The former DB turned LB returned to his roots when DB Kenny Wheaton left the game late in the fourth quarter. After a fiery game in his usual spot, Fletcher switched to defensive back and finished the game with 5 DT, 1 ST tackle, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble return and an interception. The interception prevented a late Calgary drive and sealed the Argonauts' first win of 2005.

The Compton, California native has earned CFL Defensive Player of the Week honours three times in his career (2001, 2004, 2005).

The 2004 Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003. The Toronto Argonauts have 15 Grey Cup championships to their credit.
