Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA - Ottawa Renegades starting quarterback Kerry Joseph and Renegades kicker Matt Kellett took two of the Canadian Football League's four major weekly honours Tuesday. The awards came following Ottawa's 39-36 double-overtime, week two victory over the Montreal Alouettes last Friday.

Joseph was named the Rogers-CFL Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday, while Kellett earned the Rogers-CFL Special Teams Player of the Week accolade.

The 31-year-old Joseph led the Renegades offence to overcome a 23-point fourth quarter deficit, utilizing a steady dose of an aerial and ground attack to spark Ottawa to the win. Joseph completed 23-of-36 passes on Canada Day for 302 yards and a passing touchdown. He also had 15 carries for 62 yards, including a pair of touchdown rushes.

"For us to pull that win out, we needed Kerry's big plays in crunch time and he is just an outstanding choice for this week's award," said Joe Paopao, head coach and general manager of the Renegades. "Kerry is the architect out there and he is our leader."

Kellett, meanwhile, was a perfect four-of-four in the field goal department - including a blistering 41-yard blast to open the scoring early in the first quarter, as well as some heroics down the stretch. With one second remaining in regulation time, the new Renegades acquisition (acquired in a draft-day trade with Montreal) drilled a 32-yard field goal to extend the game. In the extra session, Kellett hit two more, including the game-winner in double-overtime to give the Renegades (1-1) their first win of the season.

"We are very pleased for Matt. He bounced back like a true pro and had a solid game," said Paopao. "We look for that consistency week in and week out."

The Renegades travel to Vancouver on Thursday for Friday night's nationally televised game against the defending Western division champion B.C. Lions (10 p.m. Eastern time, Team 1200 Sports Radio/TSN). Ottawa returns to action on home turf Saturday, July 16 for a Week 4 affair against the Calgary Stampeders at Frank Clair Stadium. Tickets are available either at the Renegades ticket office (1015 Bank Street), on the Internet (http://www.capitaltickets.ca), by phone (613.599.3267 or 877.788.3267), any Sports Experts location in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions as well as the Corel Centre Box Office in Kanata.
