Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Seventeen strikeouts through seven innings couldn't keep the AquaSox down, as they rallied for six runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Eugene 8-4 in the five-game series finale on Monday, June 22, at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Dillon Maples had pitched effectively in the seventh, striking out the side for Eugene, but got into trouble in the eighth. After Yojhan Quevedo single to start the inning, Maples hit back to back batters to bring up Corey Simpson with no outs.

Simpson pulled a ball right down the left field line to double and clear the bases, giving Everett a 5-4 lead. P.J. Jones looked like he was in trouble with a high pop up to shallow center, but the four Eugene players closing on the ball couldn't make the play and Jones took second while Simpson scored.

Jordan Cowan came on to pinch run for Jones when Yordi Calderon was able to reach first on an error, allowing Cowan to score. Calderon stole second and third and was brought in when Drew Jackson singled, making it 8-4.

The Emeralds had taken a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Ricardo Marcano ripped a triple to right field off of the roll-up door to score two runs. Marcano was brought home by the very next batter, Kevonte Mitchell, on a sacrifice fly. They would add one more in the sixth to make it 4-2.

Logan Taylor had a two-run homer in the third for Everett, and Andrew Moore pitched three perfect innings to start with five strikeouts.

Everett improves to 4-1 and is off to Spokane for a three-game road trip, before taking on Boise in a five-game set starting Friday, June 26, at home. Tickets are available for the homestand online at aquasox.com and in the front office.
