Hawks Can't Complete Comeback After Falling Behind Early

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise Hawks lost the rubber match of the five game series against the Tri-City Dust Devils on Monday night at Memorial Stadium by the score of 5-2.
The Dust Devils jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning after Peter Van Gansen sent a line drive home run over the right field fence. It was the Dust Devils first home run of the year and the first home run given up by a Hawks pitcher this season.
The Hawks responded in the bottom of the first with a home run of their own off the bat of Max George. It was the first home run of the year for George and the second overall for the Hawks.
But the Hawks were not finished. Yonathan Daza, who is now hitting .400 after a monster series, ripped a single into center field, which was followed by a Brian Mundell single before Hamlet Marte reached on a throwing error to load the bases.
Luis Castro then drew a five-pitch walk to force in a run and close the gap to 3-2.
The Hawks were unable to muster any more runs on the evening as the Dust Devils bullpen threw five scoreless innings after starter Bryce Morrow left, receiving a no decision after giving up two runs on four hits over four innings of play. Elvin Liriano, pitched two scoreless frames to pick up the win and Cory Kimber entered in the ninth to earn the save.
Drasen Johnson, got his first professional start after being drafted in the 21st round of the 2015 MLB draft. The 23-year old right-hander pitched three and two thirds of an inning, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out three while picking up the loss.
Tyler Follis also got his first professional start, securing a bloop single and swiping second base for the Hawks, who lead the Northwest League in steals.
The Hawks will travel to Eugene to take on the Emeralds in a three game series beginning tomorrow night before heading to Everett for a five game series with the Aquasox.
