Emeralds Host Opening Day

EUGENE, OR - The Eugene Emeralds would like to welcome everyone out to PK Park this evening as the team hosts their Opening Day, presented by Comcast Spotlight. This is the first game the Emeralds will host in PK Park this season. The first 1,000 fans through the gates tonight and on Wednesday, June 24 will receive a magnet schedule courtesy of Harpole Real Estate.

The Emeralds are set to face off against the Boise Hawks for a 7:05 p.m. game time. This game will be the first chance for fans to see the newest generation of the Emeralds take the field. Fans are encouraged to come out to PK Park early and see all the new changed the Emeralds brought this season from décor, food, and apparel on and off the field. The gates will open at 6 p.m.

"We are very excited to start the season today," said Emeralds General Manager, Allan Benavides. "We have a lot to celebrate this season, from our 60th anniversary to the new affiliation with the Chicago Cubs. Hopefully the fans will continue to come out all season long!

During each home game, the Emeralds are excited to feature a local nonprofit through the Kendall Community Spotlight. This program helps shine a light on some of the nonprofits in the Eugene and Springfield area, and bring awareness to all the hard work they do on a daily bases. Tonight's featured organization is Opportunity Village Eugene.

Opportunity Village Eugene is a nonprofit organization with a mission to create self-managed communities of low-cost, tiny houses for people in need of housing. This transitional, micro-housing community has already help a lot of people, and they are already planning their next project, Emerald Village.

"Opportunity Village Eugene has become a model that is frequent cited in a wide variety of publications around the country as a promising new, and very cost-effective approach for providing decent, clean and safe shelter for people in need," said Dan Bryant, the Executive Director of Opportunity Village Eugene. This year the Eugene Emeralds proudly celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Since 1955, over 300 Emeralds alumni have made it to the Big Leagues. Our rich history includes players like Mike Schmidt, Bob Boone, Tom Gordon, Eric Davis and most recently 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. For the 2015 season, the Emeralds have made a major affiliation change by signing with the Chicago Cubs.
