
Eugene Emeralds Host Olympic Night

EUGENE, OR -The spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into Eugene, as the Eugene Emeralds will host Olympic Night during the Emeralds home game this Thursday, June 24.This celebration will take place during the Emeralds game verse the Boise Hawks. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a magnet schedule courtesy of Harpole Real Estate.
Although the game starts at 7:05 p.m., the celebration will start an hour early with a demonstration by the Emerald Valley BMX team at the Home Plate entrance of PK Park. Fans will also be able to hear from Olympian Paula Berry, a former Oregon Duck track and field athlete. Throughout the night, fans will be able to test their Olympic knowledge and relive memorable Olympic moments on the video board.
In honor of Olympic Night, the Emeralds are proud to feature Emerald Valley BMX as the Kendall Community Spotlight. This local organization runs the USA BMX Sanctioned BMX track across from PK Park. Emerald Valley runs its races on Saturdays and hosts a couple of large national events each year. The track is operated strictly by volunteers, and is great fun for riders of all ages.
Emerald Valley BMX is hosting its Olympic Day Race on June 27th, and is offering free membership and racing for the day. Registration is from 10 a.m. till 11:30 a.m., so fans are invited to stop by and check out how fun BMX really is. If Emeralds fans would like more information about this event, or about BMX they are encouraged to stop by the Kendall Community Spotlight table on the concourse.
The Emeralds Olympic Night is one of the nearly 700 events taking place nationwide this month. The events, designed to engage youth and promote the ideals of the Olympic movement.
Around the world, more than 160 countries take part in the annual celebration. Olympic Day, created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, focuses on the Olympic values and ideals such as fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship.
This year the Eugene Emeralds proudly celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Since 1955, over 300 Emeralds alumni have made it to the Big Leagues. Our rich history includes players like Mike Schmidt, Bob Boone, Tom Gordon, Eric Davis and most recently 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. For the 2015 season, the Emeralds have made a major affiliation change by signing with the Chicago Cubs.
