
McKay Leads Indians to Win in Pro Debut

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane broke the game open early as Darius Day belted a deep triple to center field for a bases-clearing triple, Connor McKay hit a solo homer in his professional debut, and the Indians beat the Hillsboro Hops, 8-3, taking the series, in front of 3,743 fans on Monday night. It was Garage Sale and Smokey Bear Night presented by Gottcha Covered, Wildland Fire Agencies, Spokane's Greatest Hits Key 101 and 1050 The KEY.
Spokane scored all eight runs with two outs.
Day finished the night 2-for-4 to push his average to .400. The speedy center fielder from Chicago, Ill., collected a double, triple and three RBI. McKay, who signed with the Rangers as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas today, hit a two-out solo shot to right field in the seventh inning, and added an RBI single in the eighth for good measure.
Dean Long, Jamie Potts and Carlos Garay each drove in the first RBI of their professional careers.
Omarlin Lopez, making his second appearance this year, earned the win after throwing 2.2 perfect innings with three strikeouts. Jeffrey Springs tossed two shutout innings with four strikeouts in the eighth and ninth. As a staff, Spokane struck out 11 Hillsboro hitters.
The Indians return to Avista Stadium, tomorrow, Tuesday, June 23rd for Bark in the Park. The game will be presented by The Yuppy Puppy, KAYU FOX 28 and 95.3 KPND. First pitch is at 6:30 PM, and can be heard on SportsRadio 1510 KGA.
