Lancaster Stormers News Release

Runs are tough to come by against the Somerset Patriots, but the Barnstormers were able to do just enough on Saturday.

Juan Apodaca singled down the left field line with one out in the bottom of the 10th to score Brandon Jones, providing the Barnstormers and a Clipper Magazine Stadium crowd of 6,008 with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Patriots.

Jones led off the bottom of the 10th with a single to center and immediately took second on a wild pitch. R.J. Seidel (2-1) got pinch hitter Keith Castillo to fly out to medium right field. The Patriots opted to walk Kevin Rivers intentionally to set up the double play, but Apodaca ruined the strategy, taking a 3-2 pitch into the left field corner for the game winner.

The Patriots opened the scoring in the second. Scott Cousins reached second with one out when starter Nate Reed's throw on a comebacker eluded Rivers and rolled into foul territory for the game's only error. Cousins stole third and scored with two outs when Robert Andino singled up the middle.

Reed found trouble again in the third when Jonny Tucker doubled off the glove of Jones on a diving try in left, and Aharon Eggleston singled off the glove of Yusuke Kajimoto diving to his left from third. Thomas Neal struck out for the first out, and Reed got David Vidal to ground into a slickly turned 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.

Lancaster tied the game off Sean Bierman in the bottom of the third. Rivers opened the inning with a double into the right field corner and moved up on a bunt by Apodaca. Anderson Feliz barely missed fair territory with a liner to left before bouncing back to the hill, but Kajimoto picked up the run with a double to left, ending Bierman's scoreless inning streak at 24 2/3.

Reed went seven on seven hits and three walks, striking out five. He gave way to Pete Andrelczyk, who worked two innings, and Scott Gracey (3-0) who worked the 10th for the win.

Bierman went nine innings on five hits. The left-hander walked one and struck out six.

Lancaster sends right-hander Bryan Woodall (1-3) to the hill on Sunday afternoon against right-hander Brett Brach (0-0). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 12:45.
