Blue Crabs' Offense Comes Alive in the Game Three Victory

(Waldorf, MD)---Southern Maryland came into tonight's ballgame with 39 hits overall the last three games combined, good for the second most in the Atlantic League over that span. The offensive output continued tonight with the Blue Crabs banging out a season high 17 hits and pick up the 12-2 victory at Regency Furniture Stadium in game three of the four game series.
After each team scored runs in the first inning, Southern Maryland scored three in the bottom of the second. With Jake at first, Jovan Rosa drove one over the wall in left for a two run homerun, his first of the year to make it a 3-1 ballgame. A couple of batters later Grant Zawadzki and advanced to third via a throwing error by the left fielder Daniel Rockett. The next hitter Fred Lewis singled back up the middle to score Zawadzki to make it 4-1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Casey Stevenson led off the inning with a solo homerun to right, his first of the year to make it 5-1. Zach Wilson, and Gustavo Molina both singled, and with runner at first and third, Jake Optiz drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to score Wilson to make it 6-1. Camden would add a run in the top of the sixth on a Carlos Guzman sacrifice fly to make it 6-2, but that was all the Riversharks had in the tank offensively tonight.
Southern Maryland added six more runs in their final three at-bats. In the bottom of the sixth, Zach Wilson drive in Zawadzki to make it 7-2. In the bottom of the frame in the seventh inning, Jovan Rosa led off the inning with a walk, followed by Jamar Walton reaching base via an error by the second baseman Paddy Matera. Tyler Wagner then walked, and two batters later with the bases loaded Fred Lewis grounded into a fielder's choice to score the pinch runner Anthony Vega from third to make it 8-2. Casey Stevenson then doubled down the right field line to score Walton.
With the Blue Crabs up 9-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Gustavo Molina walked, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Anthony Vega then singled to put runners at the corners, and Jamar Walton drove both runners in with a two run triple. Tyler Wagner drove in Walton with a sacrifice fly and an error by the center fielder Michael Rocket to bring the score to it's final of 12-2.
Camden's bullpen struggled tonight, giving up six runs, on six hits, in three innings of work. On the other side of the coin, Blue Crabs starter Brian Burres went seven innings, allowing just two runs on five hits, and striking out five. The first six hitters of Lewis, Stevenson, Wilson, Molina, Opitz, and Rosa went a combined 13-25 with nine runs driven in.
Southern Maryland will be looking for the sweep tomorrow as they take on the Riversharks in game four of the series. RHP Brian Grening (2-3, 5.01) will throw for Southern Maryland, and RHP Sean Gleason (2-4, 3.78) will toss for Camden. The first pitch is set for 2:05 P.M.
