
Ducks Defeat Bluefish For Second Straight Night

(Bridgeport, CT - June 13, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (19-28) were defeated by the Long Island Ducks (31-17) 9-6 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday evening. The teams combined for a total of 26 hits in the game.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Cory Riordan (2-1) suffered the loss, pitching six innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out four, surrendering one home run. Long Island Starting Pitcher John Brownell (5-1) earned the win, laboring through five innings, allowing five runs (four earned runs), on ten hits, striking out three and not walking a batter. Ryan Kussmaul came on in relief with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom half of the ninth inning and the tying-run at the plate and retired both batters he faced, recording his league-leading 13th save of the season and his second against the Bluefish in as many nights.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom half of the third inning, the 'Fish would tie the game off Brownell on a two-out, two-run double by Ryan Babineau, scoring John Alonso and Jobduan Morales. Bridgeport would take their first lead of the night in the bottom half of the fifth inning off Brownell, scoring three more two-out runs to take a 5-2 lead. Jobduan Morales laced an RBI single, scoring Matt Wessinger. Babineau followed with an RBI double, plating Morales. Frazier Hall would cap the inning with his first RBI in a Bluefish uniform, scoring Babineau.
The lead would evaporate in the top half of the sixth inning off Riordan, as Long Island would go on top for the second time, sending eight batters to the plate, scoring five runs to take a 7-5 lead. Reegie Corona and Mike Blanke would draw back-to-back bases loaded walks, a sacrifice fly from Dan Lyons and an opposite field two run triple by Bryan Sabatella put Long Island ahead for good. Blanke also launched a solo home run to left field in the top of the third inning, his first roundtripper of the season. James Simmons extended his on-base streak in his final turn at bat to six consecutive games with a single. Babineau led the offensive attack for Bridgeport with three hits.
The series concludes at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday, June 14th, when the Bluefish collide with the Long Island Ducks, featuring an appearance by the New York Jets Flight Crew. Fans in attendance will receive a 2015 Team Baseball Card Set, presented by Dot Generation. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
