Hagerstown Suns News Release
SALISBURY, MD - Francys Peguero did all he could from the bump, working five, two-run innings in the Suns 2-1 loss to the Shorebirds at Perdue Stadium Monday afternoon.
Hagerstown (23-28) is now just 2-8 in games that Peguero (2-4) starts. That number comes despite Peguero having the lowest ERA on the team at 2.33. The righty fanned five batters in as many innings of work, while giving up just one earned run in the game.
The Shorebirds (39-11) got things going early, capitalizing on a two-out error from shortstop Jose Sanchez that allowed Adam Hall to reach. With Hall aboard, Doran Turchin = banged a double to right to push Delmarva in front 1-0.
Neither club could find the score column again until the fifth frame. Delmarva was able to jump to a 2-0 lead after Ryne Ogren led the inning off with a base knock and then a pair of fielder's choices eventually allowed him to come home.
Grayson Rodriguez (W, 6-0) was fantastic again for Delmarva. He punched out eight across seven innings before giving way to Tyler Joyner (S, 5) for the two inning save.
Rodriguez did not falter until the sixth inning, where Cody Wilson got things going with a one-out double. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, the center fielder came home on an RBI groundout to second from Justin Connell.
Despite the offense just mustering two hits in the losing effort, Jared Brasher had another positive outing in the pen. The 24-year-old stretched out to a season-high three innings without allowing a run, cutting his ERA to 5.40 after a bumpy outing against Greensboro had raised it to as high as 18.00 earlier this season.
Hagerstown continues their series with the Shorebirds Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. The righty, Ryan Tapani (2-3, 4.45 ERA) gets his second start this season for the Suns. Meanwhile, RHP Gray Fenter (3-1, 2.17 ERA) receives the nod for the Shorebirds.
The Suns return home for the final time in May for a four game set with the Rome Braves May 30-June 2. Hagerstown hosts a promotionally loaded stand beginning with Thirsty Thursday May 30. After that, cinema takes over Municipal Stadium Friday and Saturday with Star Wars night and Harry Potter night, respectively. Hagerstown closes the series with Sunday Funday June 2.
