Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas snap their current skid Friday night, falling 2-1 to the Tulsa Oilers.

Tulsa hit the score sheet first, as sniper Rob Hisey roofed his shot past Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown from the near circle. Amarillo fired back with less than two minutes to play in the period. A David Nimmo face off win led to a James Jernberg shot. The rebound went to the front of the Tulsa goal where forward Joe Guenther smacked home his fourteenth goal of the season. At the end of one, Amarillo 1 Tulsa 1.

Amarillo continued to play a solid road game behind their goaltender Mike Brown. Brown's efforts were highlighted with a breakaway save on Tulsa forward TJ Caig early in the frame. Despite winning the one-on-one battles, the Oilers found a way to beat Brown. Defenseman Jim Henkemeyer scooted his shot past Brown with less than a minute and a half remaining in the period to give the Oilers the lead. Tulsa 2 Amarillo 1 after two.

Amarillo's avalanche of shots and scoring chances weren't enough at the end of the period. Final score Tulsa 2 Amarillo 1.

Guenther's first period tally was his first since November 28th & snapped a 5-game pointless drought...Tulsa snapped their 7-game losing streak...Mike Brown stopped 27 of 29 Oilers shots.
