Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 7, 2011) - For the second straight day, an impressive Nick Ciolli catch made ESPN SportsCenter's "Top Ten" plays of the night. Ciolli's grand slam-robbing grab against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans last night ranked number five on the list one day after his tumbling catch against the Salem Red Sox made number two. The latest highlight reel catch, as well as his previous catch, can be viewed on the Dash's YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/WSDashBaseball.
Almost exactly 24 hours after his thrilling catch to take a home run away from Salem's David Mailmain, Ciolli again ventured toward the short fence in right field at BB&T Ballpark to make a spectacular catch. With the bases loaded for Myrtle Beach and two outs in the fourth inning, Travis Adair lifted a long fly ball toward the right field corner. Ciolli ran toward the wall and made the catch as his back slammed against the fence, nearly sending him over the wall again. He kept himself in the field of play this time and held onto the ball for the final out of the inning. Winston-Salem went on to win a wild game against the Pelicans by an 8-7 score in ten innings.
Ciolli's catch that sent him completely over the right field wall from Tuesday night's game garnered national attention. The catch was featured on SportsCenter, ESPNews' Highlight Express, and it was even discussed during a segment on "Pardon the Interruption," where Tony Kornheiser graded the catch a "B+" and Michael Wilbon determined it worthy of an "A-." Requests for video of the catch were also fielded from NBC News, Major League Baseball, and Ciolli's hometown television station in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The Dash continue their series against the Pelicans tonight at 7 p.m. Fans may purchase tickets by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287, visiting www.wsdash.com, or stopping by the BB&T Ballpark box office.
