Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITYâIn a press conference today at Franklin Covey Field, the Angels Baseball Club announced a four-year contract extension with the Salt Lake Stingers to remain the club's triple-A affiliate through the 2008 campaign. The announcement was made by Angels' Director of Player Development Tony Reagins. Also in attendance were Angels owner Arte Moreno and General Manager Bill Stoneman.
"We are pleased to announce this four-year extension of our current player development contract with the Stingers," said Reagins. "(President) Hilary Drammis, (Vice-President & General Manager) Dorsena Picknell and the Stingers' front office staff have been a joy to work with. They run a first-class operation, and we believe our partnership has been favorable to both ballclubs."
"We are excited to continue our affiliation with the Angels" said Picknell. "We have an outstanding relationship with Tony Reagins and the entire Angels' staff, and we are grateful for the Angels' commitment to winning and developing young talent."
"We didn't need to shop around at all," Angels General Manager Bill Stoneman stated. "Salt Lake has been our first choice and it was an easy decision to extend our contract with the Stingers."
Arte Moreno has many ties to Salt Lake City. He was a part-owner of the single-A ballclub Salt Lake Trappers from 1985-1992. This was his first visit to Franklin Covey Field, which stands in the same spot Derks field once stood when the Trappers played.
This is the fourth season that Salt Lake has served as the triple-A affiliate for the Angels. The Stingers reached the playoffs in 2002, losing in the Pacific Coast League finals. The Stingers play all home games at Franklin Covey Field, which opened in 1994 and seats 15,500 baseball fans. Franklin Covey Field initially housed the Minnesota Twins triple-A club, the Salt Lake Buzz, from 1994-2000.
The Stingers, under manager Mike Brumley, are currently in second place in the Pacific Coast League's Northern Division with a record of 12-9.
