Portland Beavers News Release

EDMONTON, Alberta - Pinch-hitter Jorge Toca's RBI single with the bases loaded scored pinch-runner Paul Hoover with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Edmonton Trappers defeated the Portland Beavers 4-3 Thursday night at TELUS Field.

For the second game in a row, Portland's Bobby Scales sent the game to extra innings with a game-tying RBI single in the top of the ninth, but this time the Beavers couldn't cash in on its good fortune.

Beavers reliever Mike Bynum loaded the bases in the 10th by allowing a double to Randy Knorr and walks to Jeremy Ware and Anthony Medrano.

Pat Mahomes (2-0), who allowed the ninth-inning run, got the win, while Bynum suffered his third loss.

Edmonton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run homer by Ryan Church, his second of the year.

Humberto Quintero drove home Joe Gerber and Alex Fernandez with a two-run double in the fourth to make it 3-2.

Quintero and Fernandez each had two hits for the Beavers.

It was the second straight extra-inning game for Portland, which emerged with a 6-3 win at Salt Lake in 11 innings on Tuesday after tying the game with two runs in the ninth.

The two teams meet up Friday night in the second game of the series at 6:05 p.m. (Pacific).
