
Anaheim Ducks Sign Andy Welinski to Two-Year Entry-Level Contract

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Andy Welinski to a two-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Welinski, 22 (4/27/93), scored 6-13=19 points in 40 games with the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) this season. The 6-2, 205-pound fourth-year senior was a Second-Team All-NCHC and named NCHC Defenseman of the Week three times in 2015-16. As captain of the Bulldogs, Welinski led team defensemen in scoring, goals, points per game (0.47) and plus/minus (+13) while co-leading in assists and assists per game (0.33).
Selected by Anaheim in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, the Duluth, MN native scored 24-53=77 points in 154 career games for his hometown team. He set NCHC career highs in scoring, assists and plus/minus in 2015-16 and in goals in 2014-15.
Prior to enrolling at Minnesota-Duluth, Welinski played two seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Green Bay Gamblers. He was named USHL Defenseman of the Year in 2011-12 after leading Green Bay to the Clark Cup Championship. That season, Welinski led USHL defensemen in goals (15) and scored 15-22=37 points with a +35 rating in 54 games. In 105 career USHL games, Welinski posted 21-30=51 points with a +45 rating.
