Pirates Sign Rihard Bukarts to ATO

Portland, ME - Portland Pirates General Manager Eric Joyce announced today that Rihards Bukarts has signed an Amateur Tryout Contract.

Bukarts, a 5-foot-9, 186 pound left wing from Jurmala, Latvia joins the AHL after spending most of the season in the WHL with the Portland Winterhawks. In 55 games this season, Bukarts has scored 26 goals and 27 assists for 53 points. During the 2014-15 campaign, the former member of HK Riga had 33 goals and 74 points in 62 games.

"Bukarts is a dynamic player who has had success on multiple WHL teams. Not only does he bring a proven scoring ability but he adds skill and speed to our depth on offense," said Portland Pirates General Manager Eric Joyce.

Bukarts will be eligible for the Pirates as they begin a home-and-home series against the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin Donuts Center on Friday, April 8 at 7:05 p.m. Voice of the Pirates Jeff Mannix calls all the action beginning with the Pirates Pregame Show, Served by Dunkin Donuts at 6:45 on the Portland Pirates Radio Network, Presented by Napa Auto Parts, on AM 1310 News/Talk WLOB.

The Pirates and Bruins will conclude the series at Cross Insurance Arena on Saturday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. Former Portland Pirates Captain and Assistant Coach Trent Whitfield will be officially inducted as the 20th Member of the Portland Pirates Hall of Fame during a pre-game ceremony.
