JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to today's games against the Mississippi Braves at Bragan Field at 5:35 p.m.

Right-handed relief pitcher Steve Ames has been transferred from the Suns to Triple-A New Orleans. Ames pitched in nine games in relief for the Suns, going 2-2 with a 1.64 ERA in his 11 innings on the mound.

In a corresponding move, left-handed starting pitcher Chipper Smith has returned to the Suns from his rehab assignment with the GCL Marlins, and has been reinstated from the disabled list. Smith made a pair of rehab starts with the GCL Marlins, going 1-0 with a spotless ERA after pitching eight innings where he did not allow an earned run.

Earlier this season with Jacksonville, Smith was 3-3 with a 4.02 ERA in 11 starts. Smith was placed on the disabled list on July 11 after he left a start against Tennessee with a left hamstring strain. Smith will start for the Suns in the second game of tonight's doubleheader against Mississippi.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns and Braves will be back at it with a doubleheader on Thursday, with first pitch of game one of the twin bill set for 5:35 p.m. In game one, the Suns will start right-hander Jay Rogers (6-3, 3.27) while the Braves will counter with a righty of their own in Greg Ross (4-2, 2.30). Game two will come approximately 30-45 minutes following the completion of Thursday's first ballgame with the Suns throwing out Chipper Smith while Mississippi counters with right-hander Williams Perez (4-6, 3.25).

Suns fans can listen to Thursday's pair of games on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 5:20 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.
