Jackson Generals News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - Pensacola's Daniel Corcino tossed a season-high eight shutout innings as the Blue Wahoos (18-29, 49-68) held off Jackson (21-25, 52-63) late with a 3-2 victory in game two of the series. The Generals rallied for two runs in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 3-0 deficit and two costly errors.

Jackson starter Tyler Olson (6-7, 3.97) took the tough-luck loss as he allowed only two unearned runs on three hits in 5.2 innings. He also struck out six Blue Wahoos on the night, the fifth time he's struck out at least that many in 18 starts.

Corcino (10-9, 4.03) only allowed four hits as he handcuffed Jackson's offense all night. The victory pushed him into double digit wins for the second time in his career. He's the second Blue Wahoo hurler to record 10 wins in a season (Josh Smith in '13).

Pensacola started early as they plated the game's first run in the second inning with a little help from the Generals. With two on and one out Bryson Smith hit a grounder to second basemen Brock Hebert (0x3) who committed an error to load the bases for Ryan Wright who scored Ray Chang with a sacrifice fly.

Three innings later the Blue Wahoos again used some help from Jackson to plate their second run. With two outs Yorman Rodriguez hit a fly ball to Jordy Lara (1x4) in right field who dropped the ball just fair along the right field line. Wright, who was running on contact, scored from first on the error and the lead ballooned to 2-0 after five innings.

Pensacola made it 3-0 in the eighth inning as Chris Berset came up with runners on the corners and no outs and brought Rodriguez home with a sacrifice fly.

Jackson made things interesting in the ninth as D.J Peterson (0x3, R) and Pat Kivlehan (1x4) each reached base to lead things off. Lara followed by grounding into a double play, but Peterson scored on the play. Then, Dan Paolini (1x3, R, RBI, BB) followed with his ninth home run of the season into Pensacola Bay to cut the Pensacola lead to 3-2. Kevin Rivers (1x4) picked up a two-out single, but Mike Dowd (1x4) was next and grounded out to end the game.

Shane Dyer came on in the ninth for Pensacola and gave up both Jackson runs, but did pick up his 15th save on the season, which ranks third in the Southern League.

The Generals shall look to start a new winning streak Friday against the Blue Wahoos. Stephen Landazuri (6-3, 3.44) makes the start for Jackson as Pensacola will send Jon Moscot (6-10, 3.30) to the mound. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
