Mississippi Braves News Release

Jacksonville, FL - After rain and poor field conditions delayed Wednesday night's contest for nearly three hours in the sixth inning, the Mississippi Braves took down the Jacksonville Suns 1-0 at Bragan Field at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

With one away in the seventh, Jacksonville native Mycal Jones- who was given a key to the city by Suns president Peter Bragan, Jr. in an on-field ceremony before the game- doubled to right-center. Two batters later, Braeden Schlehuber singled with two out to bring home the lone run of the contest for the Braves (26-20; 65-50)

The run came after a rain delay that lasted longer than the game itself, spanning two hours and 45 minutes while the game was played in two hours and 10 minutes.

Jason Hursh and Jose Urena battled into the sixth inning, with Hursh allowing just a hit and Urena three hits. To start the bottom of the sixth inning, the skies suddenly opened and the game officially went to delay after Hursh struck out Austin Nola looking.

Ryne Harper (7-5) came on after the delay and got the final two outs of the sixth to pick up the win. Brandon Cunniff threw two scoreless frames and John Cornely earned his fourth save of the season in a shutout ninth, inducing a JT Realmuto double play to close it out.

Steve Ames (2-2) took the loss for Jacksonville (29-17; 65-51), allowing the deciding run on two hits over two frames.

Thursday will be a quick turnaround for the two clubs with a doubleheader slated for 4:35 PM CT. Right-hander Greg Ross (4-2, 2.30) gets the nod in game one with right-hander Williams Perez (4-6, 3.25) taking the hill in the nightcap. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.

Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 4:00 PM CT on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com.
