Tri-City Americans News Release
The Americans snapped a six game losing streak tonight with a 4-3 upset victory over the Kamloops Blazers. The win pushes the Americans one point past the Victoria Royals into the final Western Conference playoff spot.
Tri-City has now won both meetings against the B.C. Divison leading Blazers this season. They will matchup for one last time this season on Friday back at the Sandman Centre.
Fraser Minten opened scoring tonight 14:11 into the game to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
Petr Moravec replied for the Americans less than three minutes later with a power play goal to tie the game. The Czech Republic native dropped to one knee and scored with a one-timer from the left circle. It was Moravec's tenth goal of the season. Sasha Mutala and Marc Lajoie received assists on the play.
The game stayed tied at one through the second period.
Reese Belton gave the Blazers a 2-1 lead five minutes into the final frame.
The Americans followed with a surge of three goals in a span of just over seven minutes.
Tri-City's second goal of the night came once again from Moravec. Lukas Dragicevic sent the puck down the board's out of Tri-City's zone into the neutral zone where Moravec picked up the puck and skated in on an odd man rush. He scored once again from the left circle with a shot similar to his first goal of the night. Tonight was Moravec's first multi-goal game.
Shortly after Tri-City tied the game, the Americans were handed a five-minute power play as Quinn Schmiemann received a lone fight penalty after going after Dragicevic.
Connor Bouchard quickly capitalized on the opportunity just seven seconds into the man-advantage to give the Americans a 3-2 lead. The goal, Bouchard's eighth of the season, was deflected off a hard shot from Marc Lajoie.
With just over a minute remaining in the game Bouchard added an empty net goal. The goal ended up being tonight's game winner as the Blazers added one more goal in the final second of the game.
Tonight was Bouchard's second multi-goal game of his career. The one other time he scored twice in one game was February 5, 2019 against the Winterhawks.
Sasha Mutala finished the night with four assists, one on each of Tri-City's four goals.
Tomas Suchanek played the full game in net, stopping 37 of 40 shots faced.
Score: 4-3 TC
