
Americans Roar Back to Beat Sundogs 4-3

Prescott Valley, Arizona - Friday night saw the Allen Americans battling the Arizona Sundogs for the third time this season in the first of a three game set between the clubs starting with a pair on Friday and Saturday night in Arizona before finishing in Allen on Tuesday evening. The teams played back-to-back games early in the season, which the two teams split at the Allen Event Center back in November.
Arizona took advantage of the power play all game long, scoring each of their three goals with the man advantage. On their second power play of the game within the first five minutes of play, Jean-Philipp Chabot netted the puck for Arizona to give the Sundogs the 1-0 lead, assisted by Mike Gurtler and Steve Kaunisto at 4:11. The Sundogs extended their lead to 2-0 on the power play once again when Zach Carriveau scored at 7:59 of the 1st period, Craig Macdonald assisted. Allen answered back two minutes later when Jim McKenzie scored off a beautiful no-look pass from Bruce Graham at the 10:00 mark, Dominic D'Amour registered the second assist on the McKenzie marker. The Sundogs handily outshot the Americans 22-13 through the first period.
The Americans stunned the Arizona Sundogs with a pair of goals just 18 seconds apart early in the middle frame to take a 3-2 lead that held throughout the period. The first goal was scored on the power play when Colton Yellow Horn netted his 17th goal of the season assisted by Nick Layton and Joshua Hepditch at 4:25. Immediately following the power play goal, Bruce Graham gave the Americans the lead off passes from Greg Brown and Jim McKenzie at 4:43. Arizona continued to outshoot the Americans through the second period, 13-8 for a two period total of 35-21.
Allen extended their lead to 4-2 at the 4:08 mark off a goal by Jeff Martens assisted by Jason Deitsch and Bruce Graham. Arizona cut the Americans lead to one goal with 1:01 remaining in regulation when Daymen Rycroft scored on the power play, Craig Macdonald and Jean-Philipp Chabot assisted but they were unable to find the leveler as time expired. Arizona once again outshot Allen in the third period 15-12 and through all three periods for a game total of 49-33. Rejean Beauchemin earned the win in net for Allen, turning away 46 shots.
The Americans stay in Arizona for the second of their three game set, the puck drop is scheduled for 8:05PM CST Saturday night.
