Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Allen Americans responded with four unanswered goals and held off a late rush in the end to hold on for a 4-3 final on Friday at Tim's Toyota Center.
All three of Arizona's goals came on the power play - the third time this season the Sundogs (12-18-7) have scored three man-advantage goals, tying a season-high. Despite the loss, Arizona stays within six points of fifth place in the CHL's Berry Conference after Tulsa also lost.
Arizona's Daymen Rycroft made it exciting in the end after deflecting Craig Macdonald's shot from the point in the net for an extra-attacker, power play goal with a minute remaining in the third.
The Americans (19-9-7) erased a 2-1 deficit with a pair of goals just 18 seconds apart in opening minutes of period two. Colton Yellow Horn's one-timer from the slot on the power play at 4:25 tied the game. Bruce Graham then gave the Americans the 3-2 lead on a breakaway for his league-leading 51st point of the season.
The Sundogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on a pair of power play goals early on. JP Chabot scored his 13th of the season in front of the net 4:11 into the game and Zach Carriveau added his first of the season with a slap shot from the left circle at 7:59.
The American's cut the lead in half off Jim McKenzie's one-time shot after driving the net through the left circle midway through the opening frame.
Former Sundog, Jeff Martens, also scored in the third period for Allen's final goal of the night.
Scott Reid took the loss for Arizona, stopping 29 shots. Rejean Beauchemin turned in a 46-save performance in his first meeting against the Sundogs for the win.
The Sundogs finished 2-for-7 on the power play. Allen went 1-for-2.
The Sundogs wrap up their 10-game home stand tomorrow with another matchup against the Americans. Game time is 7:05 PM MST.
