Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Friday night, the Rapid City Rush were shutout for the first time this season in a 3-0 loss to the Dayton Gems. The loss ends the Rush home point streak at ten games and serves as the first time the Gems have beat the Rush, giving Rapid City a 7-1-0 record against the Turner Conference foe. The two teams hit the ice again tomorrow at 7:05pm and tickets are still available by calling 716-PUCK (7825) or online at www.gotmine.com. College students receive 'buy-one-get-one-free' tickets when presenting a student ID at the box office.

The Gems jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than ten minutes into the game with a pair of goals from veteran Damian Surma. On the first goal, netminder Danny Battochio thought he had pounced on a chip-in, but the puck was loose, allowing Surma to poke it into the open net. Surma later capitalized on a scramble in the low slot, snapping a wrist shot that bounced off of a body and over Battochio, doubling the lead.

The Gems added an insurance goal late in the second period on a powerplay goal from Tim Hartung who blasted a one-timer to the short side to give the Gems a 3-0 lead and eventual win.
