
Americans Fall 8-3 to Winterhawks

The Americans fell tonight in Portland as five straight goals carried Portland to a 8-3 victory.
For the second night in a row, Tri-City scored first but was unable to continue their early success. Tonight it was Sasha Mutala putting the Americans on the board first with a goal halfway through the first frame. They carried their 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Winterhawks scored a pair of goals early into the second period to take the lead. Tri-City tied the game 6:02 into the frame with a backdoor goal scored off a rebound from Petr Moravec, but the Winterhawks regained their lead less than a minute later.
They went to to score five straight goals and take a dominate 7-2 lead before the Americans were able to reply. Rhett Melnyk added Tri-City's third and final goal tonight with 4:52 remaining in the game. The goal, scored on the power play, was his eighth of the season.
The Winterhawks went on to take an 8-3 victory.
Nick Avakyan played the full game in net for the Americans, turning aside 31 of 38 shots faced.
The Ams will wrap up a 3-in-3 weekend tomorrow as they take on the Thunderbirds in Seattle.
