Chiefs Wrap Roadie with Another Win over Prince George

March 6, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release

Prince George, B.C. - The Spokane Chiefs capped their three-game road trip with a 3-1 win over the Prince George Cougars Saturday night. The Chiefs end the road trip with two more wins than they started with, both coming against the Cougars.

For the second night in a row, Spokane got on the board first thanks to a nifty feed from Yannick Proske to Carter Streek barreling toward the goal and getting the puck into the net.

They padded the lead at 15:30 when Bear Hughes got it to Nick McCarry right out of a power play face-off, who then shot a rocket past Prince George netminder Ty Young for his 14th of the season.

The Cougars cut the lead in half at 3:38 in the second period, when Koehn Ziemmer scored a power play goal of his own.

McCarry wasted no time in answering with another goal just over a minute later - also quick off the face-off win. Cade Hayes and Chase Bertholet earned assists on the play.

Right after Spokane's third goal, Proske collided with Bauer Dumanski near center ice and had to momentarily leave the game. Dumanski was charged with a kneeing major, but the Chiefs couldn't capitalize on the five-minute power play. Proske returned to play later in the period.

The third period was without both goals and penalties, as the Chiefs came away with the 3-1 victory.

Mason Beaupit was a wall in net for Spokane, stopping 33-of-34 shots faced, while Ty Young turned aside 27-of-30 Chiefs shots.

Spokane went 1-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Up next, the Chiefs will head home to take on the Vancouver Giants Wednesday night. It will be another TicketsWest Player Magnet Giveaway, as the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a refrigerator magnet featuring a Chiefs player.
