Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, Sask. - Nolan Allan scored 1:51 into overtime to lift the Prince Albert Raiders (21-28-2-1) to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg ICE (36-9-3-2) on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
It was the Chicago Blackhawks prospect's second game-winning goal of the season, giving the blueliner five points in his past four contests. Landon Kosior and Cale Sanders also scored for the Raiders in the win as they took all four points from their weekend games.
The Raiders now sit two points back of the Calgary Hitmen and Swift Current Broncos, who are tied for eighth in the Eastern Conference with 47 points each.
Winnipeg opened the scoring with 11.9 seconds left in the opening period. Jack Finley and Evan Friesen entered the zone on a two-on-one rush. They worked the give-and-go play, leading to Finley tapping in a backdoor feed to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The Raiders tied the game with a power-play marker at the 12:24 mark of the middle frame. They worked the puck around the zone with Ozzy Wiesblatt feeding Sloan Stanick at the right post. His one-touch pass found Kosior at the bottom of the left faceoff circle and the Regina product put it past Gage Alexander for his 14th goal of the year, tying things up at 1-1.
At the 4:35 mark of the third, the Raiders pulled ahead. Tayem Gislason cut through the middle of Winnipeg's zone before making a backhand pass to the crease. The puck went off Cale Sanders' skate and into the net for the Claresholm, Alta. product's 12th goal of the year to give the Raiders a 2-1 advantage.
Winnipeg levelled the score with 8:57 to play in regulation. Matthew Savoie made a pass into the slot that Zachary Benson was unable to handle. However, Mikey Milne was able to grab the loose puck and fire it over Tikhon Chaika to tie things up at 2-2.
The Raiders had a pair of chances late in regulation with the man advantage. Reece Vitelli set up Kosior with a one-timer, but Alexander was able to slide over to make the save. On the next shift, Carson Latimer spotted Evan Herman across the zone, but again Alexander was able to get across to take away a goal.
In the overtime period, Winnipeg had control of the puck and were circling the zone. Allan was able to poke the puck away from Benjamin Zloty before chipping it past Chase Wheatcroft to spring himself on a breakaway. He calmly snapped a shot past Alexander's glove hand to give the Raiders the win with his third goal of the year.
Chaika picked up his 15th win of the year with a 33-save effort. Alexander stopped 36 shots for Winnipeg in the loss.
The Raiders are back in action on Tuesday night when they take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Art Hauser Centre. The Hurricanes are another team the Raiders are chasing down for a playoff spot as Lethbridge sits in seventh in the Eastern Conference with 49 points. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Raiders Office during working hours and at SaskTix.ca.
