Amarillo stymied in Odessa

Odessa, TX 2/27/10 - Despite a late third period rally, the Amarillo Gorillas were not able to gain ground in the playoff picture Saturday night, losing 7-4 to the Odessa Jackalopes.

Odessa pumped 19 shots on net en route to three goals in the first period. Defenseman Alex Dunn fired home his first home goal since December 27th at the 5:16 mark. The Jackalopes' final two markers of the period came with two minutes remaining in the frame when forwards Sebastien Thinel and Jeff Pierce scored. Odessa 3 Amarillo 0 after one period of play.

During a penalty filled second period and two additional Odessa goals, the Gorillas were able to notch a goal of their own at the 5:07 mark. Forward Joe Guenther flew across the Jacks line and feathered his pass to Anthony Battaglia who scored his tenth goal of the season. Odessa had the 6-1 lead as the teams headed to the second intermission.

After Sebastien Thinel notched his first hat-trick of the season at the 2:22 mark, Amarillo reeled off the game's final three goals. Joe Guenther scored twice while Stuart MacRae added his 23rd tally of the year. Final score, Odessa 7 Amarillo 4.

The Gorillas concluded their six-game road trip with three straight games (March 3, 5, 6) in the desert next week against the Arizona Sundogs. All three game broadcasts will start at 7:55pm CST and can be followed on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV.
