Bucks Move Back To Third With Huge Win

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Texas Brahmas 5-1 Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. With the win the Bucks move back into a third place tie in the Southern Conference with the Brahmas as they improve to 27-18-9 (63 points).

Sylvain Deschatelets had two goals and an assist on the night with Darryl Smith picking up four assists and Jeff Bes handing out three helpers in the win. Pier Pelletier won his fifth straight game in net for Laredo as he stopped 21 shots.

The Bucks came out on fire in the first period as they built a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Laredo went up 1-0 just 4:28 into the game when Todd Griffith took a feed from Neil Trimm in the slot and jammed it past the goaltender. The goal was Griffith's seventh of the campaign. The Bucks improve to 18-4-4 when scoring first this season.

The Bucks (15-6-6 at home) increased their lead to 2-0 at the 8:30 mark when Deschatelets banged in a rebound from the bottom of the right circle.

Laredo would make it 3-0 with 2:02 left in the first when they struck on the power-play. Descatelets jammed in a shot from right in front of the Brahmas net to pick up his second of the game and third since joining the Bucks on Thursday night.

Laredo outshot Texas in the first period 14-6.

Neither team scored in the second period giving the Bucks a 3-0 edge entering the third period.

The Bucks outshot the Brahmas 11-10 in the second.

Adam Rivet put Laredo up 4-0 just 3:28 into the third period when he rifled a slap shot in from the point to pick up his ninth of the season.

Texas (29-20-5) got on the board at the 6:13 mark of the third when Matt Pierce scored a power-play goal from the top of the slot.

Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel made it 5-1 Bucks when he picked up a shorthanded goal at the 8:56 mark of the third. Dieude-Fauvel has nine goals on the year.

Brettt Jaeger suffered the loss as he set aside 11 of 14 shots in the first period but was pulled in favor of Joe Palmer after 20 minutes of play. Palmer stopped 22 of 24 he faced in net.

The Bucks outshot the Brahmas in the game 38-22.

Texas hosts Missouri on Sunday afternoon.
